With a new work schedule that puts me in the office after 10am, quick trips to the YMCA are now within reach before my commute. Lately my clothes have become looser; it has become a motivator. It makes me think of just how locked up I felt prior to this summer, stuck in a mindset that I was too far gone to try any sort of exercise. Starting out small - taking the Vega for a spin, so to speak - made a big difference and showed me what's fun about running and walking. With time, I've started craving different kinds of foods; oddly they're not the greasy salty kinds of foods either. The other day I sent a Tweet stating "Never thought I'd ever blurt out 'Dang that's some good broccoli.'"But the biggest change I've noticed came yesterday morning at the Y, when I was able to clear a full mile of running without 1/4-mile breaks! This is what could be called a "Mile Stone" - pun intended. Why? Because I haven't run a full mile since The Cosby Show was on regular TV. In a month since the first time out, I've gone from floundering around the track - body fat shaking like bags of rice on a hanger - to more power and less flounder. An Ultra-Marathoner, I'm not. But happy with the results, I am. It means all the walking, running, sweating, and stair climbing is working. More Y equals Less Kurt.
I had one of those "what-the-heck" moments while walking the track, and decided to shoot video. Now, I know that watching an unedited video of someone walking a track holds the same interest as watching paint dry; that's why I shot three separate laps, doubled the speed of the video, and added goofy country-swing music from the 1930s. The result is pure track-walking-at-the-Y goodness.
