I was going through some of the photo archives last night and came across of folder full of pictures from a Long Beach WA vacation in January 2009. The photo you see here started as two separate pictures, one with the sun on the left side and one with the sun on the right. My intention at the time was to take as many pictures as I could before the sun went down, in the hope that once we got home there would be something that was interesting. But individually, neither one of these had any draw.
It wasn't until looking at them again last night did I realize that I could stitch them together and make a panorama.
They was just enough "overlap" between the two pictures to blend them. I love the results, especially the way the clouds bend out towards the corners. When these were taken I didn't have the software to do panoramas, so it hadn't occurred to me then that I could combine the shots to make something like this. At the time I was hoping what I caught in a single shot would look good. They looked okay, but for some reason they seemed "abbreviated" and unfinished. But thanks to Windows Live Photo Gallery, I was able to blend them - with one slight edit along the surf line - and realize the view my brain was looking for. I kept the slight curve in the surf line intentionally; I can't explain why...it just seemed to look better when I left it there.
Hope you like it!
