"What defines us as a nation, as a people and as communities is not what we have suffered, but how we have risen above it, how we've overcome." Janet Napolitano
My words aren't enough to describe the events of 15 years ago today. Sherry visited the Oklahoma City Memorial while in the city on a business trip, and took photos at the Memorial itself - including the one above. Her comments this morning need no additions:
I still cry for the people lost in this senseless tragedy, even this morning while listening to news stories on the incident. My opinions about the horror are very clear: We must never allow the Oklahoma City Bombing languish in the shadow of 9/11. They are equal in their damage - to families, to America, to those who are only now coming to the age to understand and feel the impact of security changes in the last 15 years. If you can do one thing today in memory of those who lost their lives, it would to to hold your family and friends close."It still chokes me up when I think about it. At the memorial they have a gateway on one end with the time of the explosion, and on the other end there is another gateway with the time when it stopped, and in between they have 168 chairs, each representing a person who was killed. The large chairs are the adults and the small chairs are the kids. Tears gather in my eyes right now as I write this."
And be thankful for another day that justice was served.
