Video - Thanksgiving Interviews

This year Thanksgiving was at sister Jan's home. Since it's nice and clean there - not bathed in a sea of plastic toys like our house - I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to capture the family's stories about Thanksgiving. So I set up the videocam on a tripod in the living room and asked six basic questions:
  1. What is your first name?
  2. What is your favorite color?
  3. What was your favorite food on the table today?
  4. White or Dark meat?
  5. Describe something from a Thanksgiving when you were younger.
  6. What are you thankful for today?
If you look behind the chair, you will see an elegant yet simple quilt that is being used as a wall hanging. It's not just any hanging; that piece was done by my Great Grandmother about 100 years ago, around the time that my grandmother was born. Great Grandmother died in 1917 from Spanish Flu, and this quilt saw very little use. Ever.

The initial plan for the video was to edit it down, add some background music, and post it on YouTube; the maximum video length allowed there is ten minutes. But there ended up being nearly 14 minutes of video...and it was all good! Thankfully Facebook allows 1GB videos that go for 30 minutes, and then Tangle will post videos with a maximum length of 15 minutes. Perfect! So I put the video on both of them. The music used for the background is in the public domain, tracks that were digitized from 78rpm records and wax cylinders by record collectors around the US and stored at Archive.org. My favorite stuff in the soundtrack is from Cecil Brower and His Kilocycle Cowboys, taken from a 1940s radio show.

For those who aren't on Facebook, you can view the embedded video below, or if you don't see that you can just click HERE to view it directly at Tangle!
