Foo Photo - More Holga Shots

More Holgalizing by a guy who refuses to give up on film!

With the sad retirement of Kodachrome - once the official film of National Geographic - I have begun holding onto my cameras a little tighter, for fear that all film would be going away. Is Film Dead? I asked that question on Twitter a couple days ago, and didn't get any replies. Makes me wonder just how many people there are out in the PNW who still use - or like me have rediscovered - film photography. I am not so willing to give up on shooting in 35mm or medium format in the Holga, but I can also understand the convenience and cost effectiveness of digital every time I go to pick up my developed film shot$...

Aside from a trio of 80s era point-n-shoots, I own three film cameras: the Holga medium format, a Canon AE- 1 35mm (actually Sherry's), and a Vivitar 220SL 35mm kit inherited from my Grandpa Clark. Each one has weakness and strength in different areas, althought overall the Canon has fewer weaknesses than the other two. And I will tell you this: each one provides shots with more feeling and character than my Olympus C4040 digital could even consider processing; while technically sufficient, the digital shots are usually very matter-of-fact. I don't consider this a 'digital trait,' rather I consider it a trait of my Olympus. I simply prefer shooting film over the digital at this point.

That said, let's talk about the slideshow embedded below (if you don't see it, click HERE to view it on Flickr)

Below you will find a slideshow of my latest Holga roll, this time Fuji Color in 400 speed. As with all Holga rolls, there were 12 shots. But a few of them were multiples of Jack goofing around on rocks and others that got exposed to some extra light when the back of the camera popped off inadvertantly during the day. Woops...

Enjoy!
