After 34 years, James Groth has been found guilty of second-degree murder of a crime that I have written about in previous posts. Because certain sentencing requirements weren't in effect at the time of the crime, he will get the minimum sentence available. But he'll still be going to jail for murder.
As the prosecutor said, "Justice is finally done."

Actual sentencing has not been set. The stories have it a little wrong. Minimum sentancing is 10 years but he may and probably will get longer. He has other felony convictions in the past which can/ will effect sentancing. This was a remarkable job by a King Co. Cold case detective, and the deputy prosecutor. without them this victory never would have happened.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with your assessment of King County's work on this case. They brought justice to a voice that had been silenced for 34 years, and closure to a family that has been through enough already.
ReplyDeleteHere's to hope for a long sentence that matches the man's rap sheet.
He was sentenced on Friday. 16 years minimum up to a maximum of life. Of course he plans on appealing, but the prosecutor says he does not have grounds. Lets hope he spends a very long time in prison.
