Schoolhouse Rock meets Vietnam Era 7-Up Commercials and is scored by Santana's brother's backup band in this period-correct piece commemorating the Spirit of `76!Simply called "200," this film was contracted by the US Government and directed by progressive artist Vincent Collins. Given the time period it was obviously done without the benefit of computer generated animation, back when computers did little more than my coffee maker does each morning. Today, as a work in the public domain, it's available for all of us to watch, experience, and flashback for FREE! I vaguely recall seeing it somewhere back in 1975 or 76, but haven't a clue what classroom would queue up 180 seconds of film on the projector; probably took longer to thread it into the machine than to watch it...
But where else but in a `70s cartoon can you see the Cornucopia of American Progress exhaling cars, hamburgers, TV sets, hot dogs, and baseballs? Yeah...it's that good. If you didn't feel like you were flying on something before viewing it, chances are you should avoid operating machinery for an hour after watching this 3-minute time capsule. Enjoy!
