Beautiful Mishap

Bonafide, originally uploaded by KDavidClark.

Sometimes I love it when things go wrong...

Today at the bus stop I decided to experiment with taking photos of moving vehicles. The first two I took I held the camera in place - camera held with both hands and elbows against my body to make a rudimentary tripod - and I got great static shots with blurs of light to show the movement of the car. I turned to show David the picture I had taken, only to see that cars were coming down the road from both directions. I quickly turned around, saw a work van, focused the camera's attention on it and followed the movement while shooting.

The result is what you see above.

No thought, no planning, no setup, no tripod, no ulterior motives. Just a $35 digital camera and a healthy dose of "What If?" The only edits I made were simple: brightened the color, straightened it a little, and cropped to the size of a 4x6 print to enhance the horizontal movement lines. I love the tones, the movement, and how the van is framed in the lights of the cars going the other direction.

Beautiful mishap!
