Many readers here know I love airplanes, especially Douglas DC-3s, Mitsubishi Zeros, and other aircraft that flew in World War II. So few of these planes still exist - DC-3 excepted - and to see them in person is often for many a one-chance opportunity.
That opportunity has come to Boeing Field. A Boeing B-17 Bomber named "Liberty Belle" will be at the Museum of Flight from today through Sunday April 3rd. B-17s were the force behind the Allied air war over Europe; thousands were built in Renton and only a few remain. These big machines have four "rotary" prop engines; when running, there is nothing in the world that sounds like a B-17. And with only 14 left flying, the chance to hear that sound is getting more slight.
