Car of Wonder, Fins of Thunder

Say hello to the 1959 Cadillac...

This photo was taken at Issaquah's Triple XXX Drive In. They run a show there every weekend during the summer, and the owner has in the past purchased two classic cars from us - Miss Ruby and Clifford. As we were leaving a couple pulled up in their 1959 Cadillac hardtop and I snapped the photo with David - and those fins. Fins of a confident and playful Space-Age America. Fins that highlight a bright optimism for the future, and a bow to the interstellar travel that no doubt would soon engulf the world. Cadillac ads from the era for Fisher Body actually showed some of their cars flying through the air like space ships. Truly an era when anything was possible.

Much maligned for its size and fins in the 1960s, these cars now command prime dollar for many reasons. The outrageous styling has a lot to do with it, plus a presumed connection with Elvis may also fuel the fire of desire in collectors of the `59 Caddy (it's likely that he never owned one). The car you see here is worth much more than some, for the simple fact that it only has two doors.

We have a keen interest in these cars because we're partial to classics from 1959 because of Big Daddy. Love for these cars, in our household, transcends the price of gas!
