Welcome to South Cle Elum, home to the train depot and electrical substation once owned by the mighty Milwaukee Road. On Saturday morning, Sherry and her Mom wanted to hit the local church bazaars so David, Jack and I packed up the truck, got an oil change, and headed out with a camera. Of course, a caboose wasn't the only draw to our trip; we also visited beautiful downtown Easton (to take pictures of the railroad line running through town), and also got lunch plus a dessert in Cle Elum. This steel caboose was built in 1946 for use on the Milwaukee Road, which at the time ran from Chicago to Seattle/Tacoma (2900 miles worth). This particular caboose was stored in Othello after the Milwaukee abandoned their Washington lines in 1980. It was given to the Cascade Rail Foundation in 2005 for display at their restored depot on what is now the Ironhorse State Park Trail. It was a fun trip, filled with trains, Burger King, and Dairy Queen...all by 3pm!
